One of the ways we enhance our ability to care for our patients, as well as to help advance medical knowledge, has been by developing a Research Center. Our facility is located in our clinical office, directly across the street from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. It is designed to optimize subject safety and comfort, meet the needs of corporate and other sponsors, as well as provide facilities to ensure confidentiality and comply with Food & Drug Administration regulations and good clinical practice.
If you elect to participate in an ongoing study, we will provide you with detailed information and answers to your questions. You will be asked to consent to participate. We will explain what standard treatment is available, and you will always have the opportunity to have routine care and decline being a study subject. If at some point you elect to discontinue a study, you are always free to do so. If we think that there is a problem with your continued participation, you may be asked to end a study early. We will ask you to return any study related medication or materials, as well as participate in a final visit.
Many studies include free medication, care for study related medical problems, and financial compensation to assist with your expenses for participating. Study subjects also serve an invaluable role in advancing our ability to treat disease. They may also receive medication that is not yet generally available.
